Apartheid and the Boycott of South African Universities.
First in a series on Universities, Solidarity, and International Boycotts.
Dear subscribers,
We’re really excited to be publishing some new work by Dr Dion Georgiou, author of the Academic Bubble newsletter, on the subject of international boycotts of universities. This piece, ‘Apartheid and the Boycott of South African Universities’, is the first in Dion’s ‘Universities, Solidarity and International Boycotts’ series of articles. Given the genocidal Israeli atrocities in Gaza and Russia’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the calls for academic boycotts that have followed, there is much to be gained from careful consideration of previous academic boycotts. We are publishing this to mark the first anniversary of the October 7th attacks and the resumption of Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
We hope you find this piece as fascinating as we did.
In solidarity,
