It's time to have your say.

Please vote in the consultative ballot opening 12th November

Dear subscribers,

As you hopefully know, an outcome of the last HEC meeting on 27th September was the decision to hold a consultative ballot on the final offer from UCEA in respect of the 2024/25 HE pay negotiation round. This consultative ballot was launched on Tuesday 12th November, and it will be open until Tuesday 3rd December.

Broad, deep, inclusive, and responsive consultation with members is at the heart of our core values, and we are deeply concerned about low levels of member engagement. Therefore, we strongly encourage you all to have your say.

Before you vote, we’d recommend that you closely read all the supporting information, which includes a report from the HE officers and commentary from the negotiators. This can be found here.

The Higher Education Committee’s recommendation is that you vote to reject the pay element of the offer, and that you vote to accept the terms of reference on the pay-related elements.

The consultative ballot also asks whether you are willing to participate in industrial action in pursuit of an improved offer. The Higher Education Committee has made no recommendation on this.

You will have received a unique voting link by email from Civica Election Services, the scrutineer that oversees ballots like this. To vote, you must use your unique link. A forwarded link from another member will not work.

Once you have cast your vote, please spread the word. Your branch leadership should have emailed their members about the ballot and encouraged them to have their say. If they haven’t done this, contact them and ask them to do so. Forward this email to your friends, colleagues and professional networks, or have a chat with colleagues in the office. Remember: you are the union.

Lastly, do connect with us on Bluesky if you haven’t already, and join the conversation there.

In solidarity,
